In a highly competitive society where the 'all-about-me' culture dominates, young people are conditioned to define life purpose by academic achievements and financial success. The examination-oriented system also distracts teachers from the very goal of education - to provide young people with the necessary knowledge and tools to become informed, compassionate, and ethical world citizens.

Our 2-hour in-school teacher training workshop adopts the frameworks of humane education and social and emotional learning (SEL), educational approaches that focus on the cultivation of compassion and the teaching of responsibility for all living beings and the environment. The training provides teachers and school administrators with the skills and resources to teach about the interconnected and pressing issues that impact all life, and to equip their students with the knowledge, tools and motivation to develop solutions for a better world for all. This training workshop is ideal for whole school staff development.

The training workshop will address the following questions:

  • In what ways is the current education system failing our children?

  • What is humane education ? Why do we need humane education in our schools?

  • The core principles of humane education

  • How do we infuse humane education into our everyday teaching, regardless of what we teach?

  • Sample lesson plans and resources

  • How do we implement a humane education curriculum?

  • Humane education ideas for extra-curricular activities

We're also launching our 3-day summer intensive teacher training program in summer 2019. Training topics will include the introduction to humane education, mental wellness, bullying and cyberbullying, how to teach critical thinking and news literacy, systems thinking, an overview of the most pressing global challenges of our times in relation to social injustice, animal abuse, and environmental degradation, the MOGO Principle, how to make mindful decisions for your study tours, etc.

Workshops are facilitated by experienced certified instructors, and can be conducted in either English or Cantonese.
